New York Fashion Week - Through the Influencers Eyes

Founded in 1943, New York Fashion Week is one the most influential weeks in the year, it showcases the hottest fashion for the rest of the season. The September shows create the trends that will be seen in magazines and throughout social media over the next few months. The attendees of these shows are often influential in the fashion industry. The influencers will shape our wardrobes until spring based on their favorite trends. These are the most popular trends to look for, according to media influencers.


Alison Caporimo @alisoncapormio - Deputy Editor of Seventeen

“I’m super excited to try all the neon colors shown on the Milly runway.” Neon colors were featured in the shows of multiple designers, The Milly “Metamorphosis” collection and Milly x Tara Lewis collection mentioned by Alison in her interview featured mix of chic maxi dresses in a rainbow of neon colors and modern graphic tees layered under mesh neon athleisure paired with flowy neon skirt in the same color as the top. The “Metamorphosis” collection is “ A fluid, energetic, sensual transformation” according to the Milly website. Prabal Gurung’s collection “Resort” featured bright neons throughout the diverse show, with a mix of fashion for all genders, many different style and models represented models from over 40 countries. Christian Siriano also featured neon colors in his Spring Summer 2019 collection, with a stunning neon yellow tulle gown.

“My favorite trend was the Bermuda short-suit trend. The best iterations are thigh-skimming and expertly tailored to hit just inches above the knee.” The combination of Bermuda shorts and a boxy suit jacket is an edgy look that it easy to achieve and was sprinkled throughout fashion week runways. Dion Lee featured a nude jacket and short suit during the spring summer 2019 show. Sally LaPointe featured a sheer and glitter suit and Matthew Adams Dolan’s collection featured a pastel green satin suit.

“My favorite thing I kept seeing on the runway were sequins … LOTS of sequins! ” Women’s Wear Daily reported on how the frequency of sequins on runways may make them more mainstream and cause more people to wear them in everyday life. Sequins shone on runways in the Gucci “Cruise” show as well Daykeyla’s “Schizo” collection and Bronze and Banco’s collection, mainly in long gowns or short dresses.

“My favorite fashion week trend is probably cheetah! I love it, super fun and looks amazing on everyone.” This fun print and other animal patterns ran wild during fashion week. These prints have been featured as both the main print and an accent and were also in multiple colors and styles. On Carolina Herrera’s runway, leopard was sprinkled on dresses and tops, in both a print of actual cheetahs and cheetah print. Tom Ford featured the print in a full cheetah print outfit featuring a ruffled blue and black cheetah print dress and blue cheetah print tights.
