Its almost December, which means its almost the season of ugly sweater parties or like my school dances. Despite this disgusting knit tradition, it is possible to look cute throughout any party or dance and still have holiday spirit, WITHOUT being labeled a Scrooge.
The sweaters gained popularity in the 1980's, most likely because of the other busy and rather unappealing prints of the decade. Ugly sweaters were popular in the 1990's when they were sold as gag gifts, but not surprisingly they fell out of popularity. But ugly sweater fever skyrocketed in 2010's. According to Wikipedia "online retailer Amazon reporting an increase in sales of 600% in 2011."
My go to ugly sweater is a Christmas tree onesie complete with a tutu to look like a tree and a hood with a star, its not the most flattering this ever, but it is incredibly cozy and very festive.
These are just traditional ugly sweaters, but with a twist. Instead of terrible prints of red and green, these sweaters with cute puns and soft prints make these something a self respecting teenager would wear and enjoy.
