Being single on valentines day often makes people feel lonely and unloved. But honestly who cares? It’s just another day, and while the day is very important to the Roman Catholic Church as the feast St. Valentine, it’s really not such a big deal. So while Hallmark will try to stuff our lives with chocolate, flowers and cheesy romantic comedies here are some things you can do whether it’s by yourself or with a date to have a great day:
If you're single:
-Watch Netflix - The Tide recommends something that will make you laugh or a horror movie. Our recommendations include Bird Box, Kill Bill Vol. I & II or Pulp Fiction- pretty much the least romantic movies you can find.
-Go out and eat- either alone or if you don't want to have to eat your meal in a room full of overly romantic couples order take out and have it delivered.
- Spend time with your friends - your closest friends deserve at day to celebrate your friendship. Instead of bringing chocolates and cards to a date bring them to your best friends.
-Do your homework or study - Valentine's Day is a Thursday this year and it's only a few days before February break do your homework and start anything you have do during break so you'll have a full week of not having to do any homework.
-Read a book - The Tide recommends a novel that is a killer or a mystery. Try something by James Patterson, Stephen King, or Agatha Christie. Again, the less romantic, the better.
If you’ve got a date:
-Go out to eat - Remember to make reservations, since Valentine's day is popular at many restaurants. Wear something nice and festive, like red or pink clothing or red lipstick and nail polish.
-Cook together - Your Valentine might find it more romantic to make your meal together. Find some good recipes online and try something new. Cooking is always more fun when you have a su chef to laugh and have fun with.
- Bring your Valentine flowers - Pretty much everyone loves flowers regardless of gender, the flowers don't have to be roses but will be romantic no matter what. Bonus points for getting flowers in your valentine’s favorite color. You could also buy flowers in a color with a meaning, florists say that red or pink flowers symbolize love, orange symbolize excitement, purple symbolize admiration and lavender symbolizes love at first sight.
- Watch a movie at the theatre - It’s always fun to go to the movies and eat a ton of candy and popcorn, take your Valentine to a movie that will be fun for both of you. The Tide recommends Bohemian Rhapsody, Isn't It Romantic, A Dog’s Way Home and The Upside as feel good movies to watch together.
- Have a movie night a home - It can be just as much fun to stay home instead of going to the theatre. Gather up fluffy pillows and cozy blankets and built a fort to watch your movie in. Sprinkle chocolate chips on microwave popcorn for a salty sweet snack and watch a movie of Netflix. The Tide recommends Silver Linings, Definitely Maybe, The Theory of Everything and Sixteen Candles as Valentine’s Day appropriate rom coms.
